“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
I love this quote. Books do take you places. Magic, adventure, friendships and quests, they all await within the pages of a book. But the true prize is the confidence and opportunities that reading offers. I write books because I have words and characters that I am desperate to share. I write because I want to surprise and delight, and create new worlds that are completely immersing. Books made me the person I am today, shaping me and showing me that the world was my oyster. It seems only fair then that I try and give that gift of stories back to other children. Set them off on their own journeys of achievement and confidence. That’s a role I share with parents, teachers, librarians and booksellers for children, and I’m honoured to be on that team.
More about me, and why libraries are so important!
My friends at Riot Communications were shortlisted to work on the World Book Day campaign and made this video to explain why they wanted the job. I was delighted/astonished when they asked if they could tell ‘my story’ and how I fell in love with books!
